Mini lights are by far the most widely used Christmas Lights for decorating Christmas Trees. They are small and and easy to handle.
     We must first be aware of the standard rule; "Do not connect more than 3 sets of Mini Lights end-to-end." This is a rule created by UL. The purpose of this rule is to keep wires from overheating, and to keep fuses from blowing, and mostly to keep you and your loved-ones safe. Improper use of Christmas lighting can be dangerous, especially on a live tree. So keep that in mind.
     The first step is to figure out the amount of lights you should use. Again, tastes vary, but follow this simple guideline to get you started. Figure for one set of 100 lights for every foot and 1/2 of tree height. That would be about 5 sets or 500 lights for a seven-foot tree. This can be a bit scarce for some, but it's easier to add than to take them off. If you like it bright, then use one set per foot.
     When you tree is all set up, run an extension cord to the tree. Bring the female end up a foot or so into the middle of the tree. You want all connections to be above the water. Depending on the cord, you may have a 3-way already in the end of the cord. If not plug a 3-way adapter in. Or, you can get one of those cords that has several outlets in a six-foot span.
